The Danish invasion continues.

Universal Cable Productions has acquired the rights to Danish family drama The Legacy with plans to develop the hot property as an event series, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Created by Maya Ilsoe, The Legacy follows the four children of an internationally renowned artist who dies, leaving them to divide her estate. What was meant to be a quick and painless process exposes startling secrets and lies, turning their lives upside-down and forcing them to take a deeper look within and at one another.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith's Doug Liman, Dave Bartis (Covert Affairs) and Gene Klein (Suits) of Hypnotic are on board to produce USA's adaptation.

The Legacy was an immediate hit on Denmark's DR1 when it debuted in January. It ranked as the No. 1 show in the market for most of its 10-week run.

"The Legacy is an incredible drama with a secret at its heart that slowly tears the walls down of this complicated family," said Dawn Olmstead, executive vp development at UCP. "We fought hard with Hypnotic to get this project, in a very competitive situation, because we believe in the story at its core, and it's on point with the direction UCP is headed."

Added Liman: "The Legacy features the kind of extraordinary characters that are truly unique even as they remind us of some of our favorite (and craziest) relatives."

The Legacy becomes the latest Nordic series to come to the states. It joins NBC's Welcome to Sweden, FX's The Bridge, AMC/Netflix's The Killing, BBC One's Wallander and A&E's since-canceled Those Who Kill, among others.

The news comes the same day that USA Network ordered UCP's hacker drama Mr. Robot to pilot.
