Ed Helms is prepping his return to the small screen.
The Office alum is in final negotiations to star in Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's TV drama One Percent, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. Ed Harris and Hilary Swank are also both near deals to join the project. Studio Media Rights Capital will take the drama out to buyers for premium cable, basic cable and streaming in early August.
One Percent is set in the world of organic farming. Helms will play a member of a dysfunctional family struggling to keep their farm from financial ruin, until a bizarre twist of fate changes their lives forever. Swank will play Helms' wife, while Harris will play the family patriarch.
Inarritu (Babel) will direct the entry, which he co-created with Alexander Dinelaris, Nicolas Giacobone and Armando Bo. They previously collaborated on Inarritu's latest film Birdman, with One Percent reuniting the Oscar nominee with Babel's MRC.
The drama, which does not yet have a network attached, was first announced in November, with additional casting underway for MRC, the studio behind Netflix's House of Cards.
For Helms, One Percent marks his latest TV role following Yahoo Screen's Tiny Commando and appearances on NTSF:SD:SUV and Netflix's Arrested Development. The Hangover star also launched a production company and inked an overall deal with Office producers Universal Television in September. Helms is repped by CAA, Principato Young and Schreck Rose.
