Emile Hirsch, Holliday Grainger to Star as 'Bonnie and Clyde' for Lifetime/History
Lifetime/History has found its Bonnie and Clyde.
The Borgias' Holliday Grainger and Into the Wild's Emile Hirsch have signed on to play the legendary couple in the miniseries from Smash's Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The four-part miniseries revolves around the infamous bank-robbing pair, with Hirsch playing Clyde Barrow, the charismatic armed robber who sweeps Bonnie Parker off her feet. Grainger's Bonnie is described as a small-town waitress who longs for romance. She becomes Clyde's cohort in crime, picking Clyde over her beleaguered mother.
Grainger and Hirsch take on the title roles played by Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty in the Oscar-nominated 1967 film Bonnie and Clyde. Miley Cyrus was attached to play Bonnie in the project but dropped out.
In a Broadcast News reunion, Oscar winner William Hurt will play Frank Hamer, a Texas Ranger known for his involvement in tracking and killing the 1930s outlaws, and Academy Award winner Holly Hunter will portray Emma Parker, Bonnie's mother.
The Lifetime/History project, the first of its kind to air on both AETN networks, is being produced by Smash EPs Meron and Zadan, who are set up at Sony Pictures Television.
Hirsch, whose credits include Milk, Speed Racer and Savages, is repped by WME, the Collective and Sloane Offer. He next appears in Universal's Lone Survivor. Grainger's résumé include recent feature remakes of Great Expectations, Anna Karenina and Jane Eyre. She's with Troika and IFA.
