Fantasia Barrino 'Pissed Off' About Mahalia Jackson Film Rumors (Video)
The "American Idol" winner addressed the reports on "The Wendy Williams Show" on Tuesday.
As The Hollywood Reporter first reported, American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino called in to Tuesday’s The Wendy Williams Show. She addressed rumors that she had been pulled from a Mahalia Jackson biopic for concealing her pregnancy and angered the iconic gospel singer’s family by reportedly having a baby with a married man.
Barrino was a last-minute addition to Tuesday’s show, calling in from her home where she is on bed rest. First off, she confirmed she’s having a boy and that her due date is December 29. She then addressed the reports that Jackson’s family is angry with her.
“When I was watching and it came across,” Barrino says. “I was ready to walk to New York. I almost went into labor, because it was the first time that I’ve heard anything about that. I haven’t spoken to the family, haven’t heard anything from the family.”
Barrino says that as far as she knows, she’s still in talks to star in the film and had been told that shooting would start sometime in January. She then revealed that the producers told her that the film’s investors had pulled out of the project.
“There were no contracts signed and there was no set date and time,” she says. “When this came out, I jumped out of my bed. I’m hoping this didn’t come from a producer, because again there’s no black and white. There’s nothing in black and white. We waited on them and they said the money didn’t come through.”
“So, I was a little pissed off,” she continues. “Because I wanted to make the family proud and most of all I wanted to make Mahalia Jackson proud and my fans and everyone else who’s been following me.”
Despite Williams’ attempts, Barrino refused to speak on rumors that she’s still in a relationship with Antwaun Cook, a married man she has been dating on and off for more than a year and rumored to be her baby's father.
