Film Critic Roger Ebert Enrages Fans with 'Insensitive' Ryan Dunn Tweet

Was the critic's joke about the late star just too soon?

Roger Ebert makes a living on his wit, judgment, and turn of phrase. And with more than 400,000 followers on Twitter, people tend to like what he has to say in 140 characters or less, as well. But, did the film critic misjudge the timing on a tweet in which he apparently infers that Jackass star Ryan Dunn’s fatal car accident was the result of drunk driving?

Earlier Monday, he tweeted out a link to a news story on the reality star’s death and soon after he tweeted, “Friends don’t let Jackasses drink and drive.”

Almost instantaneously, he was barraged with tweets from followers and fans of the late reality star expressing their disapproval over the comment and asking him to apologize.

There has been some speculation that drunk driving may have played a role in the crash that ended Dunn and his passenger’s life as he tweeted photos of himself drinking hours before the accident. But, a preliminary police report didn’t note that as a possible cause, citing speed as a possible contributing factor.

As of the posting of this article, Ebert has yet to publicly acknowledge the fury or issue an apology. What do you think he should do?
