'The Following's' Shawn Ashmore Boards ABC Drama 'Conviction'
ABC's Conviction is adding to its ranks.
The drama pilot has enlisted The Following alum Shawn Ashmore, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Conviction tells the story of Carter Morrison (Agent Carter's Hayley Atwell), the brilliant but ne'er-do-well daughter of a former president who is blackmailed into taking a job as the head of Los Angeles' newly created Conviction Integrity Unit. She, along with her team of lawyers, investigators and forensic experts, work together to examine cases where there's credible suspicion that the wrong person may have been convicted of a crime.
Ashmore will portray Sam, an ADA who isn’t pleased that Carter has taken the job he wants — and unaware she was blackmailed into taking it.
Jessica Jones' Liz Friedman and Liz Friedlander (The Following) penned the script, with the latter set to direct. Both exec produce alongside the Mark Gordon Co.'s Gordon and Nicholas Pepper.
The casting marks a reunion for Ashmore and Friedlander, who briefly worked together on Fox's The Following.
The role brings Ashmore back to primetime following its three-season run. His credits include X-Men: Days of Future Past as well as X-Men: The Last Stand and X-Men 2. He's repped by Gersh, Industry Entertainment and Jackoway Tyerman.
