It Follows writer-director David Robert Mitchell is venturing into TV.

The man behind the indie horror hit is developing a crime series with Universal Cable Productions, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Mr. Postman follows a mailman who investigates the dark mysteries within his all-American town after a horrific event occurs on his own street. Mitchell will direct and executive produce alongside Benderspink's Chris Bender, J.C. Spink and Jake Weiner. The project will be Mitchell's first for the small screen.

"David is a true artist with incredible vision that I believe will be a game-changer in storytelling both in television and film," said Dawn Olmstead, executive vp development at UCP. "We are very excited to take out Mr. Postman, his first TV project. It's like nothing else out there."

After earning favorable reviews at Cannes last year, It Follows has proven a sleeper hit at the box office. The film has grossed $13 million since its March 27 nationwide release.

“I’m really excited to be working with Universal Cable Productions and Benderspink on this project. It will be very fun to build this world, see these characters come to life, and share this mystery,” said Mitchell.

Mitchell's credits also include The Myth of the American Sleepover. He is repped by WME and Benderspink.
