'Fortitude' Renewed for Second Season at Pivot, Sky Atlantic
Get ready to go back to Fortitude.
Pivot and Sky Atlantic have ordered a second season of the crime drama, which is set in the picturesque arctic community of Fortitude.
Season one stars Stanley Tucci as Eugene Mortan, a British police detective who travels to the arctic to investigate the brutal murder of a scientist. He becomes embroiled in Fortitude's intrigue as he teams with reluctant partner Sheriff Dan Anderssen (Game of Thrones' Richard Dormer) to find the killer. Michael Gambon, Christopher Eccleston and Sofie Grabol also star.
Creator Simon Donald, who wrote all 13-episodes for the critically praised first season, returns to write and executive produce season two. Fortitude is Pivot's first scripted drama, making them among the networks who have entered the increasingly competitive scripted arena, joining Bravo, E! and Pop, among others.
“From the first episode, audiences responded to the incredibly rich world Simon Donald created, where nature and civilization collide with catastrophic results. We’re excited to announce that Fortitude will be back for another season of suspense and chaos,” said Pivot general manager Kent Rees.
No casting news was announced for season two. Several main characters have been killed off during the first season, which concludes on Thursday.
Sky Atlantic channel director Zai Bennett said: "Simon Donald created a unique and unsettling story that, week after week, has captivated audiences. I am absolutely delighted that we will be bringing Fortitude back next year with a story that promises to engage, challenge and enthrall us all over again."
Jeff Skoll and Chris Loveall will serve as executive producers for Pivot on season two. Patrick Spence and Frith Tiplady serve as executive producers for Fifty Fathoms and Tiger Aspect. Anne Mensah and Lizzie Gray serve as executive producers for Sky Atlantic. Sky Vision handles international distribution for the series.
Fortitude's season one finale airs at 10 p.m. on Thursday on Pivot.
