Fox Lands Female Invincibility Drama From 'Save Me' Creator
Fox is poised to explore invincibility.
The network has picked up a script from Save Me creator John Scott Shepherd, described as a mixture of Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and Unbreakable, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Broken Girl revolves around an emotionally damaged woman named Trish Derring who, after she loses the man she saw as her last hope for happiness, decides she has nothing left to live for -- only to discover she's literally invincible.
The drama follows the anti-heroine who must live with a body that has become both her fortress and her cage. It blends elements of Stieg Larsson's Tattoo -- which grossed $232 million worldwide -- and M. Night Shyamalan's 2000 thriller Unbreakable ($248 million worldwide).
Shepherd will write and executive produce the 20th Century Fox Television and Prospect Park drama.
Shepherd's Anne Heche comedy Save Me was quietly burned off at NBC in May and June. The scribe's credits also include features Life or Something Like It and Joe Somebody. Relativity acquired his spec script Jump in May.
Shepherd is repped by Paradigm and McKuin Frankel.
