Fred Savage to Direct CBS Comedy 'Jacked Up'
Fred Savage is adding the CBS comedy Jacked Up to his director credits.
The former Wonder Years star-turned-prolific director has been tapped to helm the half-hour pilot, which stars Patrick Warburton as a beloved, recently retired baseball player who finds that adjusting to retirement isn't as easy as he thought it would be. Friends’ Greg Malins is set to write and executive produce the Sony Pictures Television and CBS TV Studios entry alongside EP Doug Robinson and producer Warburton.
The multicamera project marks Savage’s second this development season. He also has been hired to helm a single-camera comedy, The McCarthys, which is set up at the same network. Oscar nominee Jacki Weaver has been recruited to star in the family comedy, about a loud, sports-crazed Boston clan, from Sony and CBS TV.
The news comes as Savage is well into his two-year overall deal with the CBS studio to direct, produce and create his own projects. In recent years, he has helmed such series as ABC’s Happy Endings and Modern Family, CBS’ Two Broke Girls and FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. At this time last year, he had boarded Martin Lawrence’s CBS multicam comedy, which ultimately was passed over.
Savage is repped by CAA and Jackoway Tyerman.
