FX Orders Comedy Pilot From 'Weeds' EP
With the upcoming launch of younger-skewing network FXX coming in September, FX is continuing to up its comedy projects.
The network on Wednesday handed out a pilot order to You're the Worst, a comedy from Weeds executive producer Stephen Falk.
The comedy is described as a love story about what happens when two toxic, self-destructive people fall in love despite themselves and attempt the impossible -- a relationship.
Falk was a co-EP and writer on the Emmy-nominated Showtime pot-dealing comedy Weeds, which ended its run in September. His credits also include reteaming with Weeds creator Jenji Kohan on Netflix's latest original series, Orange Is the New Black, and created NBC's short-lived Dane Cook comedy Next Caller, which was canceled before it aired.
"We love the story and characters that Stephen has created," FX Networks original programming president Eric Schrier said in a statement announcing the FX Productions entry, which Falk will also produce. "It’s a unique and hilarious script, and we can’t wait to see it realized."
Worst marks the latest comedy pilot addition at the network as FX ramps up its original programming ahead of the September bow of FXX. The network recently ordered the untitled Andrew Gurland comedy starring Nat Faxon and Judy Greer, which begins production in early August. Additionally, the network is casting Billy Crystal comedy The Comedians, from Larry Charles, Matt Nix and Ben Wexler, as well as Death Pact, starring 30 Rock's Tracy Morgan.
The network also recently handed out a series order to the 10/90 comedy starring Kelsey Grammer and Martin Lawrence. Further, the Danny McBride-produced animated entry Chozen was picked up to series -- the first specifically for FXX.
