'The Goldbergs' Taps 'Suburgatory' Alum to Romance Barry (Exclusive)
Beverly Goldberg is about to play matchmaker on ABC's The Goldbergs.
The 1980s-set comedy has tapped Suburgatory alum Allie Grant for a guest role, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Grant will return to Suburgatory's former time slot and play Evelyn in an upcoming episode. Evelyn is described as a mini-version of Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey) — she has big blonde hair, an affection for loud sweaters and scrapbooking, and an uncontrollable need to smother even though she's a teenager. Barry's (Troy Gentile) smother-mother Beverly will set her eldest son up with Evelyn in an episode set to air in 2015, with the potential for Grant's character to possibly return.
Based on the life of showrunner Adam F. Goldberg, the show's second season will track Barry's "dysfunctional love" with Lainey (AJ Michalka), whom he described as "the girl who can't stand you, but is attracted to you," Goldberg told THR.
In addition to Suburgatory, Grant's credits include Showtime's Weeds. She's repped by Paradigm and Sweeney Entertainment.
Grant joins The Goldbergs' season-two guest list, which also includes iCarly's Noah Munck, who will recur as Barry's friend "Naked Rob."
The Goldbergs airs Wednesdays at 8:30 p.m. on ABC. Check out more of THR's interview with Goldberg here.
