'Grey's Anatomy' Books Caterina Scorsone's Return
The "Private Practice" alum will return to the flagship drama for the remainder of its 10th season.
Amelia Shepherd is returning to Seattle.
Following her happy ending on Grey's Anatomy spinoff Private Practice, Caterina Scorsone will return to the flagship drama, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
As first reported by TVGuide.com, Scorsone will reprise her role as Derek's sister, Amelia, in an early May episode and recur for the remainder of Grey's Anatomy's current 10th season.
Scorsone first joined Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers' Private Practice as a recurring player in season three. She was promoted to regular in season four and crossed over to Grey's for two episodes -- in 2010 and 2012 -- where she reunited with her older brother, Derek (Patrick Dempsey).
For her part, Rhimes has been vocal about wanting Scorsone to return to Grey's. "Amelia is Derek's sister, and I'm going to want to see that happen at some point as well," the showrunner told THR in March 2013, two months after Private Practice wrapped its six-season run. (Rhimes also said at the time that she wants to see Kate Walsh return to Grey's to reprise her role as Dr. Addison Montgomery.)
Scorsone, repped by Innovative and Open, joins Grey's Anatomy alum Isaiah Washington in booking a return trip to the medical drama this season. The series will say farewell to one of its original and most beloved stars, Sandra Oh, whose Cristina Yang will exit the series following the end of its 10th season in May.
Scorsone is one of Derek's four sisters on Grey's. Neve Campbell recurred as Lizzie in 2012 and Embeth Davitz previously appeared as Nancy. Psychiatrist Kathleen Shepherd has been mentioned but has yet to appear on the series. There's no word if Campbell, Davitz or Amelia's love interest Matt Long will also return.
Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
