'Grimm' First Look at What Hansel and Gretel Are Up Against (Exclusive Photos)
NBC’s Grimm has presented its viewers some frightening versions of fairy tale lore in the past, but wait until you see where the series takes its version of the Hansel and Gretel story on Friday’s episode airing at 9 p.m.
"One of the challenges we faced in adapting Hansel and Gretel into our own little repertoire of crime stories was firstly finding a crime that could live up to the morbidity of the original,” writer and executive producer David Greenwalt tells The Hollywood Reporter.
“I mean let's face it, cannibalism is a pretty high bar to reach, that is unless Hansel and Gretel found themselves in the brutal black market of the Grimm world where human organs are sold as medicinal elixirs to the highest bidder,” writer and executive producer Jim Kouf adds. “And these medical practices are definitely not ‘cruelty free.’”
THR has a first look at this week’s creature, the “Geir,” which is described in Grimm’s universe as “a vulture-like creature with an innate ability to move through trees. The earliest recorded appearance was during World War I. They are vile creatures that gut humans, take pleasure in the resulting pain, and then use the organs and blood as homeopathic medicines and aphrodisiacs.”
By the way, the episode is titled, “Organ Grinder.” Ew.
