'The Hangover' Star Joins NBC's Ryan Murphy Comedy
Justin Bartha and newcomer Georgia King have boarded "The New Normal" pilot from "Glee" writer Ali Adler.
The Hangover's Justin Bartha has been tapped to co-star in Ryan Murphy and Ali Adler's NBC comedy pilot The New Normal.
The single-camera project revolves around a gay couple and the woman who becomes their surrogate. Bartha joins the previously cast Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon) and will play David, the significant other/husband with whom Bryan (Rannells) intends to start a family.
In addition, the project has cast Scottish actress Georgia King (the BBC's Little Dorrit) as Goldie, the woman who agrees to serve as the couple's surrogate.
Bartha and King join Ellen Barkin, who will play Goldie's often racist grandmother in the pilot.
Glee scribe Adler, who joined the Fox dramedy this season, will pen the pilot alongside Glee co-creator Murphy, who will direct the 20th Television/Ryan Murphy Productions project. Dante DiLoreto will exec produce.
Bartha, whose credits include playing Doug in The Hangover and its sequel, is repped by CAA and Management 360. King, who guest starred on the U.K.'s Free Agents, is repped by Paradigm.
NBC landed the half-hour project last month after a multiple network bidding war. The project marks Murphy's first half-hour comedy and should it be ordered to series, mark his fourth project on the air behind Glee, its Oxygen reality spinoff The Glee Project and FX's anthology thriller American Horror Story, the latter two of which both earned second seasons.
