HBO's 'Silicon Valley' Trailer: 'Steve Jobs Was a Poser' (Video)
HBO on Sunday debuted the first full trailer for its upcoming Mike Judge comedy Silicon Valley.
The comedy is set in the high-tech gold rush of modern Silicon Valley, where the people who are the most qualified to succeed are the least capable of handling success. The series, partially inspired by Judge's own experiences as a Silicon Valley engineer in the late '80s, stars an ensemble that includes Thomas Middleditch, T.J. Miller, Zach Woods, Kumail Nanjiani, Martin Starr, Josh Brener, Christopher Evan Welch and Amanda Crew. Matt Ross guest stars.
The show centers on Richard (Middleditch), an introverted computer programmer living in the Hacker Hostel start-up incubator along with his best friend, Big Head (Brener), pompous Gilfoyle (Starr) and dry-witted Dinesh (Nanjiani).
"You've got to deliver, like Steve," one character says in the trailer. After clarifying that he meant Jobs and not Wozniak, another character replied: "Jobs was a poser. He didn't even write code."
Other conversations about attempted suicide, anxiety, buyout offers, Asperger's syndrome and algorithms ensue.
Silicon Valley, a collaboration between Judge and Alec Berg, premieres at 10 p.m. April 6. Judge directs four of the eight episodes; Berg directs two; Tricia Brock (HBO's Girls) and Maggie Carey (The To Do List) also direct.
Judge created the series with John Altschuler and Dave Krinsky; the trio also serve as executive producers alongside Berg, Michael Rotenberg and Tom Lassally.
