Vikings centers on the world of the Dark Age raiders, traders and explorers -- not from an outsider's view but through the eyes of the Viking society. The drama follows the adventures of Ragnar Lothbrok (Fimmel), a curious, compelling man always looking to break through barriers and discover new worlds to conquer who is deeply frustrated by the unadventurous policies of local chieftain Earl Haraldson (Byrne).
Against the music of Awolnation's aptly themed "Sail," the glimpses into Vikings suggest major upheaval, fights, sex and exploration will be a part of the nine-parter. When Ragnar proclaims that he wants to see "what's to the west," Earl declares there are "no lands to the west!" It's the classic battle between the traditional vs. the new.
Vikings debuts at 10 p.m. March 3 on History Channel.
