Ricky Whittle will play a world traveler and potential love interest for Denise Vasi's Raquel during the second season of the Queen Latifah-produced comedy.
VH1's Single Ladies will welcome a U.K. star into its ranks when it returns for its second season in the summer.
Hollyoaks star Ricky Whittle has booked a recurring role on the Queen Latifah-produced comedy, The Hollywood Reporter has learned exclusively.
Revovling around three best friends (LisaRaye McCoy, Charity Sheaand Denise Vasi) whose views on love and relationships vary, Whittle will play Charles, a world traveler, professional journalist and amateur musician. Charles and Raquel (Vasi) share the same passion for life, with Whittle's character serving as a potential love interest for the cast's newest addition.
Production is under way in Atlanta on the sophomore season of the series, which marks VH1's first hourlong scripted offering. Whittle will recur and appear in seven episodes in the back half of the season, which will premiere in the summer.
Whittle, repped by manager Ken Jacobson, starred as Calvin Valentine on BBC America's Hollyoakes from 2006 to 2011 and was a contestant on the U.K. version of Dancing With the Stars. Since relocating to Los Angeles, he has starred opposite Keri Russell, Jennifer Coolidge and Jane Seymour in the feature Austinland.
VH1 renewed Single Ladies for a second season in July after the effort averaged 2.8 million total viewers on Mondays following Basketball Wives.
Vasi joined the series in December, replacing former lead Stacey Dash, who departed the comedy in September. Whittle's casting marks the second international talent to join the comedy for its second season: telenovela star William Levy will also join the series for a pair of episodes.
