Hope Davis Among Trio Cast in ABC's Shondaland Legal Drama
ABC's Shondaland legal drama is rounding out its cast.
Joining the untitled pilot from Scandal's Paul William Davies are Hope Davis, Vondie Curtis-Hall and Rege-Jean Page, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Set in the Southern District of New York Federal Court, aka "The Mother Court," the legal drama follows brand-new lawyers working on opposite sides — both for the defense and the prosecution — as they handle the most high-profile and high-stakes cases in the country, all as their personal lives intersect.
Davis (Wayward Pines, In Treatment) will play Jill, a smart and savvy federal public defender who is the boss of all the newly minted public defenders and who makes it clear to them from the moment they get their cases that they’ve got an uphill climb.
Curtis-Hall (Daredevil, Chicago Hope) will portray William Byrne, an intelligent, eloquent, formidable, seasoned and fair chief judge for the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. He welcomes and swears in the newly minted prosecutors and public defenders.
Page (Roots, Waterloo Road) is set as Leonard, an arrogant and animated new prosecutor who is taking his first case at the prestigious United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
Britne Oldford (Hunters) stars as Sandra Black, a new public defender who is driven to the law because of an injustice perpetrated on her family when she was a child. The character still has outrage from that long-ago trauma, but has decided to channel it into action via the law. Anna Deavere Smith, Ben Rappaport, Susannah Flood and Wesam Keesh round out the cast.
Davies will pen the script and executive produce the ABC Studios drama alongside Shondaland's Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers.
Davis is repped by UTA and Kipperman Management; Curtis-Hall is with Gersh; and Page is with CAA.
