Hulu Renews 'Quick Draw'
Quick Draw will continue on Hulu.
The streaming service announced Monday that it has ordered a second, 10-episode season of the comedy from John Lehr and Nancy Hower (10 Items or Less). The move comes as little surprise given that the half-hour entry consistently ranked among the 10 most watched series on Hulu each week this summer. The series' second season will bow in 2014.
Lehr, the series' co-creator and star, is set to return as Harvard-educated sheriff John Henry Hoyle, who uses his forensics expertise to solve crimes in a small Kansas town while trying to fit in with the townspeople who regard him with a healthy dose of skepticism. Season two of the procedural Western comedy will feature the same collection of characters, including Deputy Eli (Nick Brown), saloon owner Honey Shaw (Allison Dunbar), outlaw Pearl Starr (Alexia Dox) and undertaker Vernon Shaw (Robert Clendenin).
"The second season of Quick Draw will continue to crack up current fans and win new ones," Charlotte Koh, Hulu Originals' head of development, said in a statement, adding: "We're really excited to see more of John Lehr and Nancy Hower's comedic reimagining of life in the Wild West in 1875."
For Hulu, Quick's second season will join a growing slate that includes a mix of acquired series and originals. In the second half of 2013, Hulu brass has said that there are six of the former and four of the latter. They join a library of some 70,000 TV episodes from 2,500 series. The company called off its highly publicized sales process earlier this spring, announcing instead that it would invest another $750 million in the streaming service.
In October, Hulu was back in the news cycle when it announced that Fox executive Mike Hopkins would be assuming the role of CEO, with acting chief Andy Forssell set to depart.
