IFC Developing Hockey Comedy With Denis Leary's Apostle
With success in sketch comedy (Portlandia) and the semi-autobiographical (Maron), IFC is looking to expand its original comedy brand to serials in its latest development. The network announced Wednesday that it has commissioned a half-hour pilot that will be scripted by Jim Serpico and Tom Sellitti.
The duo is working on Uncle Chubby’s, a comedy that follows a diverse group of 20-something friends who share an intramural ice hockey team. Though mostly novices, the rag-tag group has dreams of a Division 8 Adult League title at Chelsea Piers — a most sacred win, indeed.
Uncle Chubby’s comes from Sellitti and Denis Leary’s Apostle, which also produces Maron, which was recently renewed for a third season.
This isn’t the only potential series Serpico and Sellitti have on their hands. They’re also penning a one-hour drama pilot for FTVS, The Bakken. Apostle also has the second season of USA’s Sirens and FX’s Leary vehicle Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll.
IFC recently ordered a second outing of comedy miniseries The Spoils of Babylon.
