'Inside Amy Schumer' Takes On Bill Cosby Sex Scandal

Inside Amy Schumer tackled the Bill Cosby sexual assault scandal on Tuesday night. In the sketch, set during Cosby's "trial" in the "Court of Public Opinion," Amy Schumer plays a defense attorney who emphasizes Cosby's status as a beloved pop-culture figure known for starring in The Cosby Show and his associations with pudding pops and brightly colored sweaters.

"At this point, Bill Cosby probably can't get in any legal trouble: that's not what this is about," she said. "This is about us not punishing ourselves for loving great comedy. This is a court of public opinion. Let's remind ourselves of what's at stake here. The next time you put on a rerun of The Cosby Show, you may wince a little, might feel a little pang. And none of us deserve that. We don't deserve to feel that pang. We deserve to dance like no one's watching and watch like no one's raping."

As she danced to music that sounded similar to the Cosby Show theme song, played a clip of the NBC sitcom (albeit with audio that didn't sound that authentic) and handed out pudding pops, sweaters and even cake to the jury, Schumer stressed how those Cosby contributions should make the jury feel good.

After playing the Cosby Show clip, Schumer asked the jury, "Did anyone feel raped by that? How about drugged? No? Me neither. I felt comforted by a familiar father figure: Nostalgia, happiness, laughter. Not guilty ... I am a good person. I like this good show. Last I checked, good plus good did not equal guilty."

At a Tribeca Film Festival panel last month ahead of Inside Amy Schumer's third season premiere, Schumer teased that the sketch would be in the latest batch of episodes, with the comedian explaining that they filmed it last so it was prepared as close as possible to airing, as things were constantly changing in the news. The sketch, however, doesn't address any of the specific allegations against Cosby.

"We probably talked about that scene more than any other scene we’ve ever done," Schumer said at Tribeca, "We got into heated debates in the writer’s room about it."

Watch the full clip below and keep an eye out for Schumer's reaction when she's given a drink from Cosby to thank her for defending him.
