Updated: Amazon has confirmed that Jack Ryan is not a straight to series order but just a development project.

Previous: Amazon has scooped up Jack Ryan.

The streaming service has handed out a straight-to-series order for the drama based on Tom Clancy's popular CIA books following a competitive bidding process.

The drama hails from Lost's Carlton Cuse and writer Graham Roland, Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes, Skydance Media and Paramount Television.

The series is described as a new take on the Jack Ryan movies that follow the character in his prime as a CIA operative but use the books as a jumping off point.

Roland will exec produce alongside Cuse and Lindsey Springer of Carlton Cuse Productions as well as Platinum Dunes' Bay, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form as well as movie franchise producer Mace Neufeld.

Over five films, the Ryan character has been played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine.

For Cuse, the Jack Ryan drama becomes his fourth on the air including A&E's Bates Motel, FX's The Strain and USA Network's upcoming Colony.

Paramount TV, meanwhile, continues to mine its library for titles including Fox's Minority Report, Nick's School of Rock as well as pilots Urban Cowboy (Fox) and Shooter (USA).
