Disney Sets New 'Jake' Special With 'Fosters' Star Maia Mitchell as Wendy Darling (Exclusive)
Disney's Jake and his crew of kid pirates are headed to London in a new primetime special — featuring appearances by some familiar Peter Pan characters.
Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Battle for the Book! is set to debut at 6 p.m. ET/PT on Sunday, Oct. 26, on Disney Channel and Disney Junior. Wendy, John and Michael Darling will make their series debut in the musical special, with Maia Mitchell (Disney Channel's Teen Beach Movie and ABC Family's The Fosters) voicing the role of Wendy and performing a new original song, "Once Upon a Time." Peter Pan and Tinker Bell will also appear.
Jake focuses on a group of kid pirates as they fend off Captain Hook and Mr. Smee in the search for treasure. The hit animated series is based on the Peter Pan franchise, originated by writer J.M. Barrie, but the Darlings have yet to make an appearance on the show. Peter Pan has appeared in three special episodes, while Tinker Bell has previously appeared in one.
The new special finds Captain Hook stealing Wendy's storybook from the Darling family home in London, prompting Peter Pan to enlist Jake's help to save the day. With his trusted crew and the spirited Tinker Bell by his side, Jake meets the Darling children for the first time, and together they race to prevent Never Land's most cherished tales from being lost forever.
Peter Pan has become a hot property of late. In addition to Disney's Jake, NBC is set to air a live musical production starring Girls' Allison Williams as the boy who won't grow up and Christopher Walken as Hook on Dec. 4.
A full-length preview of Jake and the Never Land Pirates: Battle for the Book! will be available on WATCHDisneyJunior.com and via the WATCH Disney Junior app beginning Sunday, Oct. 19, followed by the debut of a new Hidden Objects game on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The special will be released on DVD on Jan. 6.
Jake and the Never Land Pirates, which airs daily on Disney Junior and Disney Channel's Disney Junior programming block for kids age 2-7, consistently ranks among the top programs for kids 2-5. Rob LaDuca is executive producer, Mark Seidenberg is producer/story editor and Howy Parkins is director. The series is produced by Disney Television Animation.
