Gang Related centers on Ryan Lopez (Charlie's Angels' Ramon Rodriguez), a gang member sent to infiltrate the San Francisco Police Department and rise through its ranks. He must balance his obligations to his crime family -- the gang from his old neighborhood -- with an increasing sense of loyalty to his new "family," the SFPD's Gang Task Force.
Hernandez will play Dante, Ryan's best friend and a member of the gang who is privy to the fact that his childhood buddy is now working for the SFPD. He's the son of a drug lord and the first member of the family to go to college -- and his father's hope for the family to get out of the gang life and live legitimately. Like a young Michael Corleone, he'll be sucked into the gang world in order to protect his family and could wind up taking his father's place.
STORY: TV Pilots 2013: The Complete Guide
Fast and Furious' Chris Morgan will pen the pilot for 20th Television and executive produce alongside Scott Rosenbaum, Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo. Allen Hughes will direct the pilot, which also hails from Imagine Entertainment. The cast also includes Fast and Furious' Sung Kang and Inbar Lavi.
In addition to ABC's short-lived Last Resort, Hernandez's credits include last year's CBS drama pilot Trooper, Six Degrees and features Crazy/Beautiful, The Rookie, Hostel and Quarantine. He's repped by Paradigm, Alchemy Entertainment and Fuller Downs. On Nashville, he'll play a sober companion to Juliette's mom, Jolene.
