Jon Stewart Slams Jerry Sandusky for Bob Costas Interview: 'You Can't Even Bring Yourself to Lie Emphatically' (Video)
The "Daily Show" host criticizes the former Penn State football coach for choosing to "literally phone in your defense on national television."
Jon Stewart had some harsh words for former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky on the heels of the latter's interview with Bob Costas.
Sandusky, who has been charged with 40 counts of sexual abuse against children, broke his silence about the scandal in an interview that aired Monday night on NBC's Rock Center With Brian Williams.

During the phone interview, Costas asked Sandusky he was "completely innocent and falsely accused in every aspect," the latter replied: "Well I could say that, you know, I have done some of those things. I have horsed around with kids. I have showered after workouts. I have hugged them and I have touched their leg. Without intent of sexual contact."
Sandusky -- who has been charged by the state of Pennsylvania with the sexual assaults or advances on eight boys from 1994-2009, during which time he served as Penn State defensive coordinator and head of the Second Mile charity, helping at-risk youth --insisted that he is not a pedophile but admitted that there are some actions he regrets.

"I shouldn't have showered with those kids," he said.
On Tuesday night's The Daily Show, Stewart blasted Sandusky for doing the interview.
"Now, I'm no lawyer, but it seems to me when you're accused of one of the most heinous crimes imaginable, you may not want to literally phone in your defense on national television," Stewart said.
He then played a clip in which Costas asked whether Sandusky was "sexually attracted to boys." Sandusky then repeated the question.
"Did you just repeat the question?" Stewart asked. "Because you must have known that question was coming, but everyone knows the only time you repeat a question is when you're guilty."
He continued: "You can't even bring yourself to lie emphatically. ... It's like in that phone conversation, you're actually fighting the urge to come clean, and if you weren't prepared for that question, it wasn't going to get any easier."
Stewart, who praised Costas for his handling of the interview, then played a clip in which Sandusky talks about engaging in what he characterizes as innocent "horseplay" in the shower.

"Are you f---ing kidding us?" Stewart chimed in. "Horseplay is wrestling your friend out of a pillow fort. Throwing your nephew into a pool. Things that would never be mistaken for rape."
Stewart also poked fun at Sandusky's lawyer, Joe Amendola, who was sitting next to Costas in the studio during the interview. Costas asked Amendola if he would allow his kids to be alone with Sandusky, and he replied that he would and said he believes Sandusky is innocent.
"Right you'd leave your kids alone with Sandusky," Stewart said. "Um, are the kids you would leave alone any of the kids you had when you impregnated a teenage client back in 1996 when you were at the time 49 years old? What kind of creepy guy club do you both belong to? I'm not a lawyer here, but again, if you're accused of forceable sex with minors, maybe your criteria for finding a lawyer shouldn't be 'also has issues with sexual boundaries.'"

His final words for Sandusky?
"You're a defensive coordinator," he said. "You should have been able to coordinate a better defense."
