'Jersey Shore' Recap: All Blowup, No Hookup
The Situation puts himself in the hospital, while Ronnie packs his things to leave Italy.
While the cast of Jersey Shore has promised more drama ever this season, episode 5 was heavy on the blowups but light on the hookups.

Thursday's episode, which originally aired on Sunday prior to the MTV Video Music Awards, picked up right where the week before left off -- with a knock-down, drag-out fight between Ronnie Ortiz-Magro and Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino.
The brawl, a result of pent up animosity between two of the house's most dramatic characters, ended quickly and in an unusual manner. While fans were teased with images of Sitch being carried out of the house on a stretcher, not many viewers predicted that his wounds were self inflicted. In an attempt to lessen his interaction with Ron, Sitch smashed his own head into a wall, resulting in minor head trauma and a sprained neck.

Meanwhile, more words are exchanged between drunk Ronnie and his drunk on-again-off-again girlfriend, Sammi "Sweetheart" Giancola. Jenny "J-Woww" Farley manages to step in and cool Ron's temper eventually, much to Sammi's chagrin.
As expected, the intoxicated love-birds attempt to bury the hatchet once again, resulting in an admission of semi-infidelity on Ronnie's part. Sam says she's done and Ron decides to pack up and go home. Luckily, he doesn't make it far before Vinny Guadagnino convinces his pal to stick it out a little longer.

In a rare display of relationship functionality, Jenni and Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi receive flower arrangements from their boyfriends back in the states. The smush room, however, remains mostly unoccupied.
The Situation returns from the hospital with a neck brace and doctor's orders to keep out of the clubs for the next week. He and Ronnie laugh off the altercation, whilst both admitting during confessional interviews that their issues remain unresolved and may bubble up again in the future.
Abandoning their fallen soldier, the girls and guys split up and embark on their own separate night's out. Lying relatively low through the episode, Paul "DJ Pauly D" Delvecchio gets in a minor tiff at the club. Ronnie, meanwhile, brings roses home for his now-ex-girlfriend.

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with the cast at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, Aug. 28th, and got the latest on SamRon's status.
"Right now we're still together," he said. "We found the combination to get through what we've gotten through and hopefully everything works out."
So what can viewers expect next week?
The volatile duo will, once again, give their relationship another go, while Snooki suffers drama in her own love life. The ever-bromantic Pauly and Vinny will provide the much-needed comic relief with a guido-themed comedy show.
