Jessica Simpson Tapped 'Fashion Star' Mentor
The singer-actress will join reality series host Elle Macpherson.
NBC has named Jessica Simpson as a celebrity mentor for its upcoming reality series Fashion Star.
The network said Monday that Simpson will join host Elle Macpherson on the reality series, which will see 14 unknown designers compete for the chance to win a multimillion-dollar contract to launch their lines in three of America’s largest retailers. Buyers from the three retailers serve as judges.
“With an almost billion-dollar lifestyle brand under her belt she is sure to be an excellent mentor to our up-and-coming designers,” said Paul Telegdy, NBC executive vp alternative programming at NBC and Universal Media Studios.
Simpson, whose credits include features The Dukes of Hazzard, Employee of the Month as well as MTV’s Newlyweds and the VH1 docuseries The Price of Beauty, also has seven Billboard Top 40 hits.
Fashion Star was created by E.J. Johnston and James Deutch of the Global Fashion Association, Rick Ringbakk of 5x5 Media and Ben Silverman, who executive produces along with Jane Lipsitz and Dan Cutforth of the Magical Elves, Ringbakk, Macpherson and Johnston & Deutch of GFA.
"Jessica Simpson has built an incredible fashion business and is a perfect mentor to our aspiring designers," said Silverman, CEO and founder of Electus. "She will complement the buyers, Elle Macpherson and amazing format."
