Jim Sturgess to Star in Hulu Drama 'Hard Sun' From 'Luther' Creator
Jim Sturgess has booked his next TV gig.
The Feed the Beast and Close to the Enemy grad has been tapped to star in Hulu drama Hard Sun, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, with Agyness Deyn (Sunset Song) set to co-star.
Picked up to series in December 2015, Hard Sun hails from Luther creator Neil Cross. Sturgess and Deyn will play detectives Robert Hicks and Elaine Renko, respectively, partners and enemies who seek to enforce the law and protect their loved ones in a world that every day slips closer to certain destruction. Hicks is a family man and a great, committed officer. He’s also profoundly corrupt. Renko is a difficult and damaged, but utterly incorruptible, officer. The duo stand on different ends of the social and moral spectrum and also seriously distrust one other — and for good reason. But they must somehow learn to work together if they’re going to survive until the end of the world.
BAFTA and Emmy nominee Cross will pen the script and exec produce alongside Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones), who directs alongside fellow EP Hugh Warren (Call the Midwife). Euston Films' Kate Harwood and BBC One's Elizabeth Kilgarriff will also exec produce. Filming is set to begin this month in London.
Sturgess is fresh off AMC's one-and-done drama Feed the Beast and Acorn mini Close to the Enemy. Repped by CAA, his credits include Cloud Atlas and Across the Universe.
Deyn's credits include Clash of the Titans and Hail, Caesar. She's with UTA.
Hard Sun joins a roster of upcoming originals at Hulu that includes The Handmaid’s Tale, Harlots, Future Man, National Treasure and The Looming Tower.
