Jodie Foster and The Big C creator Darlene Hunt are teaming for a new comedy.

Sony Pictures Television is developing Charlie, based on a spec script from Hunt, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The single-camera comedy centers on a self-destructive, emotionally stunted alcoholic who vows to get her life on track after rescuing a dog she believes to be her reincarnated mother. A network is not yet attached.

Hunt will write the script and exec produce the comedy via her overall deal with SPT. Foster will executive produce the comedy and, should it go to pilot, potentially direct.

Foster recently earned two DGA Award nominations for her directing work on Netflix's Orange Is the New Black and House of Cards. She's currently in preproduction on Tristar's Money Monster, starring Julia Roberts, George Clooney and Jack O'Connell.

For her part, Hunt most recently was a writer/EP on NBC's Save Me. She is repped by UTA and attorney Joel McKuin.

Foster as a director is repped by UTA and attorney Mathew Saver.
