Jodie Foster Developing Mob Drama 'Angie's Body' at Showtime
The female-focused drama from Sony Pictures Television will be written by "Heroes" and "Jericho" scribe Rob Fresco.
Showtime is going back into business with Jodie Foster.
The Silence of the Lambs Oscar winner is on board to direct and executive produce Angie's Body, a drama project in development at the premium cable network, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The Sopranos-like drama centers on a shrewd and lethal woman who runs a family-based crime syndicate. Heroes and Jericho scribe Rob Fresco penned the script and will executive produce alongside Russ Krasnoff and Foster, who will also direct the Sony Pictures Television project.
For Showtime, the female-fronted project comes as the network is ending the runs of two female-driven series, with Mary-Louise Parker's Weeds ending its run this year and Laura Linney starrer The Big C poised to wrap its run next year with four hourlong installments.
If picked up to series, the project would join dramas Masters of Sex and Ray Donovan on David Nevins' programming slate.
The project reunites Foster with Showtime, where she produced the 1998 TV movie The Baby Dance, starring Stockard Channing and Laura Dern.
Foster's recent credits include Elysium, The Beaver and Nim's Island. She's repped by UTA and Matthew Saver.
