'The Following': Fox Kicks Off Joe Carroll's 'Resurrection' Campaign (Exclusive Audio)
As a tie-in to Monday's episode, THR debuts a voicemail message recorded by James Purefoy accessible to the public via a special number.
Joe Carroll wants to talk to you.
Fox is rolling out a special tie-in with the second part of The Following's two-hour premiere, airing Jan. 27 at 9 p.m. EST/PST. During the episode, titled "For Joe," a bearded Joe (James Purefoy) is seen living a modest life outside the bustling New York City, with "revelations surrounding Joe's new life brought to the surface."
In the new episode, an ad will appear in the classifieds as a message for Joe and lists an arbitrary phone number: (917) 829-4091. As part of a marketing ploy, Fox purchased the number and had Purefoy record a voicemail message for viewers of the show who choose to call. Hashtags Fox will be utilizing on Twitter throughout the day and evening include #JoeCarrollLives and #CallJoe. (Listen to Joe's voicemail here.)
"Hello friend. If you’ve called this number, you must be a follower. I’m sorry to have been gone so long," Carroll says in the voicemail, which The Hollywood Reporter exclusively debuts. "Your loyalty and dedication means everything to me. This time I won’t disappoint. The resurrection is coming. Be ready." Then, the line goes dead.
The Following debuted Jan. 19 after the NFC Championship Game with a series-high 11.2 million viewers and 4.4 rating among adults 18-49.
The Following airs Mondays at 9 p.m. on Fox.
