The "True Blood" actor, who appeared in five episodes of the CBS comedy, is heading back for several episodes in the upcoming eighth season.

When True Blood's fifth season finishes up in September, Joe Manganiello won't be off of televisions for long.

TCA 2012: CBS Pushing for 'How I Met Your Mother's' Early Season 9 Renewal

A 20th Century Fox TV rep confirms to The Hollywood Reporter that the actor has booked a multi-episode arc on How I Met Your Mother, as first reported by TVLine.

Before Manganiello appeared in True Blood or Magic Mike, he joined How I Met Your Mother in the second season, subsequently appearing in four more episodes over the years as Marshall's (Jason Segel) law school friend Brad. He famously, and unsuccessfully, went on a date with Robin (Cobie Smulders).

How I Met Your Mother, which is currently being considered for an early renewal for a ninth season at CBS, is bringing back several familiar faces from previous seasons when it returns in the fall. Michael Trucco and Ashley Williams will both appear as well.
