Jon Hamm Stands By Kim Kardashian, Reality TV Slams During 'Today Show' Interview (Video)
The "Mad Men" star reaffirms his distaste for the unscripted shows, and gets back up from his co-star.
Here's a twist: thanks to his strong dislike of the genre, Jon Hamm has found himself in a reality television-style rivalry.
Having called Kim Kardashian a "f--king idiot" in a recent interview with the UK's Elle Magazine -- and then been called out by Kardashian over Twitter -- Hamm stuck to his guns in an interview with his Mad Men co-stars on the Today Show.
"It's a part of our culture that I certainly don't identify with and I don't really understand the appeal of it other than that car-crash sensibility," he said about reality television. "It's not something that I partake in or enjoy, but it is what it is and here we are."
That's a stronger stand than the one he took when he spoke to The Hollywood Reporter last week; then, he said he was surprised that his comments had made such a stir.
"We live in a world now where every word is micro-parsed and sometimes taken out of context, sometimes misunderstood," Hamm said. "But also, there's a lot of outlets now. Everyone has a blog or a cable news show or an online presence or something. There's a lot of outlets and and those outlets need to be continually fed."
As for his comments on Monday, co-star Vincent Kartheiser had his back.
"I agree with everything he said. I mean, I think our society enjoys to turn on the television and seeing someone who is awful; they can say, 'At least I'm not as terrible as that person,'" Kartheiser said.
