Jon Stewart Slams MSNBC for Defending Fox News' Comments on the Poor: "Did You Even Try to Research This?" (Video)

Stewart did not appreciate when a Fox News contributor said that poor people lack a "richness in spirit."
A still from Wednesday's 'Daily Show'

Jon Stewart is taking both Fox News and MSNBC to task.

On Wednesday's Daily Show, he criticized Fox News for saying President Barack Obama doesn't do enough to help lower-income families. Stewart showed a clip of the network's Stuart Varney remarking that the main problem with impoverished people is that they lack a "richness of spirit."

Stewart then impersonated Varney as if he were a not-yet-reformed Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol: "If you see a boy on crutches, push him down. He's not crippled — he's crippled at heart! He lacks a richness of legs-ness."

Stewart followed that by showing a clip of MSNBC's Morning Joe, in which the show's hosts questioned Obama's claim that Fox News anchors have used the words "leeches," "sponges" and "lazy" to describe poor people.

"Well, I guess it's time for our favorite game show: Did you even try to research this?" lamented Stewart about MSNBC before airing footage of Fox News stars using each of those very words.

The segment can be seen in the video below.
