Josh Hopkins is returning to ABC.

The Cougar Town alum, whose show aired on the network for three seasons before moving to TBS, has joined rookie drama Quantico as a new series regular, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The drama centers on a group of young FBI recruits training at the Quantico base in Virginia. As the series intercuts between their hidden pasts and their training, it also flashes forward to the near future, when one of the recruits will turn out to be a sleeper terrorist responsible for the most devastating terrorist attack on U.S. soil since 9/11.

Hopkins will take over the role of Special Agent Liam O'Connor originally played by Dougray Scott (Hemlock Grove) in the pilot. The character is described as a sexy, good-looking and charming staff counselor who works with new agent trainees. The former partner of the FBI Academy's assistant director, Miranda (Aunjanue Ellis), Liam is now her subordinate. He's good at his job, but known for suffering bouts of depression stemming a mistake in his past. Although he and Miranda have a shared history and fondness for one another, they frequently butt heads.

Josh Safran (Gossip Girl) penned the script and will exec produce alongside Mark Gordon and Nick PepperMarc Munden directed the pilot of the drama, which hails from ABC Studios and Mark Gordon Co.

ABC recently moved Quantico from Tuesdays at 10 p.m. to Sundays at 10 p.m. after Of Kings and Prophets was pulled from the schedule to be retooled.

Hopkins joins a cast that includes Bollywood star Priyanka Chopra, Tate Ellington, Graham Rogers, Johanna Braddy, Yasmine Al Massri and Jake McLaughlin.

The role marks his follow-up gig to the beloved Courteney Cox comedy, which wrapped its six-season run in March. He is repped by Gersh and Brillstein Entertainment Partners.

Quantico premieres Sunday, Sept. 27 at 10 p.m. on ABC.
