Justin Bieber Joins Protégé Carly Rae Jepsen on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'
The up-and-coming singer makes her U.S. television debut on Friday, while the pop phenom reveals a sneak-peek of his new single, “Boyfriend.”
Carly Rae Jepsen has exploded onto the music scene after being hand picked by pop phenom Justin Bieber to join his newly formed Schoolboy Records, via Interscope.
During a Friday appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, the 26-year-old Canadian native will make her U.S. television debut with a performance of her infectious single, “Call Me Maybe.”
Asked about the moment of truth that changed her life, Jepsen recalled the day she received an unexpected phone call from Bieber.
“I had been signed in Canada to 604 Records,” she said. “I had never branched outside of Canada and had no idea how to do that, and then one miraculous day Justin called.”
“You know how that happens,” DeGeneres joked. “Sometimes Justin just calls. That’s really exciting. It just changed your life.”
“It did,” Jepsen replied. “At the time, I was touring in Canada in a soccer mom van with my band and it seemed too good to be true.”
Jepsen recently debuted her EP, Curiosity, after placing third in the fifth season of Canadian Idol back in 2007. "It's all about love and chaos and those fun messes," Jepson wrote of the record on her personal website. The lead single, "Call Me Maybe," has already shot up the Billboard charts, currently sitting pretty in the No. 23 spot.
The man of the hour, Bieber himself, also stopped by the studio to give fans a first listen to his new single, “Boyfriend,” out Monday.
