Keshet Studios Inks First-Look Scripted Deal With NBC
Keshet Studios is laying down roots at NBC.
The recently launched L.A.-based subsidiary of Keshet International, which will oversee the latter’s domestic scripted projects, has inked a first-look programming deal at the broadcast network. Included in that is a co-production pact for scripted fare with NBC’s sibling studio, Universal Television. The news comes about a month after Keshet announced it was opening the U.S. studio, which is being led by veteran Peter Traugott.
“Keshet International’s proven track record of producing quality programs across different genres makes them a perfect partner with NBC. We’re very much looking forward to finding the right projects that bring out the best in both our companies,” said NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt, with his entertainment president Jennifer Salke adding: “We are thrilled that Peter Traugott is leading the charge in U.S. television development for Keshet Studios. Between Keshet International's incredible library of I.P., access to original voices and Peter's expertise as a producer and developer, NBC is well positioned for success in partnership with this innovative company.”
The deal extends a relationship between NBCUniversal and parent Keshet International, which have collaborated on both USA Network’s ambitious Dig and NBC’s short-lived Allegiance. Its Keshet Studios has access to a collection of more than 30 scripted formats along with potential future scripted formats. The catalogue includes Prisoners of War, on which Showtime Emmy winner Homeland was based, and half-hour Traffic Light, which Fox adapted back in 2011. Keshet Studios will also develop original series for both domestic and international markets.
“Our history and success with NBC is a wonderful platform for which to launch a formal and long-term relationship,” said Keshet International CEO Alon Shtruzman, who added: "Bob, Jennifer and the leadership team are among the best in the business, and Keshet Studios looks forward to developing and delivering more Keshet quality and branded programming for U.S. audiences.”
