Kim Kardashian's Marriage 'Wasn't a Sham,' Mom Says on 'Today' (Video)
Kim Kardashian isn’t the only one getting back to business after her divorce filing on Monday. Her mother and manager stopped by the Today show on Tuesday to promote her new memoir, Kris Jenner and All Things Kardashian, and discussed her daughter’s failed marriage.
“I knew a few days before, of course, because Kim and I are really close,” Jenner tells Ann Curry about the divorce filing. “[She had] a very difficult thing to do on Monday – and it’s just our job now, I wrap my arms around her and [be] there for her through thick and thin no matter what. That’s how our family has always been.”
And as for reports that the wedding was a sham, Jenner says that they’re totally untrue.
“It makes me feel sad some people are reacting that way,” she says. “Certainly wasn't a sham, certainly wasn't for TV. We have enough going on… we don't have to make things up.”
Viewers who watched the two-part wedding special on E! can see that things weren’t always smooth in the days approaching the wedding. Kardashian admitted in a statement released Tuesday that she probably should have called the wedding off, but she was caught up in the “hoopla” of the event and didn’t want to disappoint all the people involved.
“She really felt like she was in love with him and it was an amazing time for all of us, and for all of us who were watching,” Jenner says. “I had no idea there was a problem at the time.”
Jenner goes on to say that Kardashian and the family didn’t make millions off of the wedding, saying they charged their usual fee for shooting on the wedding specials. She also states that her daughter made between a half million and $1 million dollars off the exclusive wedding photo deal with People, which was reported at $1.5 million. And as for that reported $2 million engagement ring, Jenner says it was really worth less than half that.
The mom-ager says that whatever her daughter did make off the deals surrounding her wedding went into paying for the lavish event.
