Netflix Renews 'Last Chance U' for Third Season (Exclusive)

Season three of the college football docuseries will move from Mississippi to Kansas.

Netflix is ready to return to the field.

The streaming giant has renewed college football docuseries Last Chance U for a third season, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The upcoming season will see the series move from East Mississippi Community College to Kansas' Independence Community College. The team, the Independence Pirates, are fresh off their first winning season in a decade, aided by then first-year head coach Jason Brown.

Once again, Last Chance U will follow a group of college football players as they grapple with past failings and try to get to the next level of their pigskin careers. 

"While we now have the opportunity to head to Kansas, we hope to revisit the people we've grown to love over the past two seasons of Last Chance U," said director Greg Whiteley. "We are forever grateful to the talented team at East Mississippi Community College, who dedicated months of their lives in Scooba and trusted us to tell their incredible stories."

Whiteley exec produces Last Chance U with Joe LaBracio, Dawn Ostroff, Lucas Smith, James D. Stern, Ben Cotner, Adam Del Deo and Lisa Nishimura. The project, originally inspired by a GQ magazine feature, is produced by Netflix in association with GQ publisher Conde Nast Entertainment, Endgame Entertainment and One Potato Productions.

A third season renewal makes Last Chance U one of Netflix's longest-running docuseries, following Chef's Table. Other docuseries at the streamer include Making a Murderer, The Keepers and upcoming premieres of The Confession Tapes and Fire Chasers.

In addition to its ever expanding list of original scripted series, Netflix has been actively growing its unscripted slate with the addition of talk shows from Bill Nye and David Letterman, competition series like Ultimate Beastmaster and a slew of stand-up specials from A-list talent like Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld.

The renewal comes as Conde Nast Entertainment continues to expand beyond its massive portfolio of print publications, such as Vogue and Vanity Fair, and into original content with series like Amazon's The New Yorker Presents, Investigation Discovery's Vanity Fair Confidential and the virtual reality series Invisible from Doug Liman.
