'Legit,' 'Chozen' Canceled at FX and FXX
UPDATED: The animated comedy at FX will not move forward after one season, while scripted half-hour "Legit" will end its run after two seasons on FXX.
FX and younger-skewing network FXX have lowered the ax on two half-hour series.
At FXX, scripted comedy Legit has been canceled after two seasons; and at FX, animated vehicle Chozen will not continue after its freshman run.
For Legit, which never was a ratings driver, the sophomore season opened to less than half its audience from its 2013 debut, luring just 300,000 in February. The series -- created by Peter O'Fallon and Jim Jefferies and starring Jefferies, DJ Qualls and Dan Bakkedahl -- centered on a 30-something with muscular dystrophy and a party hound with an intellectual disability. The series was embraced by the disabled community; its finale airs May 14.
Animated comedy Chozen, meanwhile, premiered to just under 1 million viewers in January, but shed half its audience for the March 31 finale. The comedy about a white gay rapper and his family was produced by Danny McBride and was the first original scripted effort picked up to series at FXX before it was eventually moved to FX. Bobby Moynihan voiced the lead character in the Rough House Pictures production that was exec produced by Floyd County Productions (Archer).
The decision to drop both comedies comes as FX has a hefty roster of upcoming originals already picked up to series. The slate includes half-hours You're the Worst and Married, both due in July, as well as Billy Crystal comedy The Comedians and a Tracy Morgan vehicle due in 2015. For its part, FXX also will bow the fourth and final season of FX transfer Wilfred in June.
On the comedy side, FX is developing Denis Leary starrer Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, animated entry Bigfoot, Death Pact, Charlie Kaufman's How and Why, as well as The Last Girlfriend on Earth, starring Jay Baruchel, and an untitled effort starring Zach Galifianakis from EP Louis C.K.
