'Private Practice' Alum to Play Anna Nicole Smith in Lifetime Pic From 'Smash' Duo
Agnes Bruckner will play the bombshell in the TV movie from Craig Zadan and Neil Meron.
Lifetime has found its Anna Nicole Smith.
Private Practice alum Agnes Bruckner has been tapped to play the former Playboy pinup in the female-skewing cable network's The Anna Nicole Smith Story, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
STORY: 'Smash' Duo Developing Bonnie & Clyde, Anna Nicole Smith, Warren Jeffs Projects
The original movie, which hails from Smash's Craig Zadan and Neil Meron's Storyline Entertainment, is based on the true story of Vicky Lynn Hogan, a pretty but plain girl who grew up in a small Texas town who transforms herself into Anna Nicole Smith, the voluptuous, Marilyn Monroe-esque Playboy pinup and model.
John Rice and Joe Batteer will pen the script for the telepic, which also comes from Judith Verno and Sony Pictures Entertainment.
In addition to Private Practice, the APA and MPE-repped Bruckner's credits include Covert Affairs, The Bold and the Beautiful and the upcoming indie feature A Bit of Bad Luck.
For Lifetime, the pic is one of two projects the Smash duo has in development at the cabler, joining their Art Monterastelli-penned effort about the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints' jailed leader Warren Jeffs. The projects continue the network's relatinship with Zadan and Meron, who also executive produce Drop Dead Diva and are behind this month's remake of Steel Magnolias.
The Smith telepic comes as Lifetime is continuing to make a splash with its Elizabeth Taylor TV pic, Liz & Dick, with Lindsay Lohan playing the former starlet. That pic is due in November.
