Lifetime Developing 'Columbine' Miniseries With 'Moneyball,' 'Mildred Pierce' Producers (Exclusive)

The female-skewing cable network is developing Columbine, a miniseries based on the tragic events surrounding the deadly 1999 school shootings as recounted in the 2009 book by Dave Cullen.

An American Crime writer-director Tommy O'Haver, who optioned the rights to the book, would write and direct the project. Michael DeLuca (Moneyball, The Social Network) is in discussions to produce alongside Christine Vachon and Pam Koffler (Mildred Pierce, Boys Don't Cry), with whom he worked on American Crime.

Cullen's book recounts the stories of Trench Coat Mafia members Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, who killed 12 students and a teacher before committing suicide in the 1999 Colorado school shooting. The book is described as a portrait of hatred, which delves into the shooting's effects on the survivors, victims' families and the community. Also explored are the warning signs as well as the police investigation into the attack.

Columbine joins several high-profile projects in various stages at Lifetime, including a period drama loosely based on Renee Zellweger's journey from small-town Texas to Hollywood, a period drama with Johnny Depp about The Hollywood Reporter founder William Wilkerson and an Elizabeth Taylor biopic with Lindsay Lohan circling the lead role.

DeLuca picked up best picture Academy Award nominations for his part in producing Moneyball and The Social Network. Vachon and Koffler executive produced HBO's Mildred Pierce, which picked up Emmy, SAG, WGA and PGA nominations in the miniseries categories and produced several wins for leads Kate Winslet and Guy Pearce.

O'Haver, whose credits also include Ella Enchanted, is repped by UTA and Myman Greenspan.
