'Mad Men' Creator Looks Back Ahead of Final Run, Full Cast Sits for Last Promos (Exclusive)

The original six series regulars look colorful, as Matthew Weiner talks about the drama's origins.

The final seven episodes of Mad Men are getting dangerously close, set to kick off their AMC run on Sunday, April 5.

There will no doubt be a lot from creator Matthew Weiner and the cast as the end draws closer — but for now, the network is dropping a few promotional morsels in anticipation of the rest of season seven. First up is the original cast — Jon Hamm, Christina Hendricks, January Jones, Vincent Kartheiser, Elisabeth Moss, John Slattery —sitting in character for a promotional still and a clip Weiner getting nostalgic about the drama.

"I got of a piece of advice from David Chase on my last day in the [writers] room at The Sopranos, before I did the pilot," says Weiner, talking about casting Mad Men. "He said, 'They're going to come in and you're going to read it and you're going to hate it. Don't change it. When the right person comes in, it will work. It's good.'"

Weiner was disappointed by the actors auditioning until Moss came in. "She was totally Peggy," he said. "I came back to the casting directors, and I said, 'Just get some more people like her.'"

As for the below photo, it, like the other images popping up online, finds the cast in character — and looking like they might be at a country club. Though it's not remotely as inflammatory as the last time that happened.
