'Mad Men' Premiere Song 'Zou Bisou Bisou' Released on iTunes
Actress Jessica Pare's recording of the '60s French pop hit is now available for digital download.
If there was a theme song to capture the essence of Sunday's long-awaited Mad Men premiere, then it would certainly be "Zou Bisou Bisou," the '60s French pop song crooned by Megan Draper during her bizarre, come-hither burlesque performance for Don Draper's surprise 40th birthday party.
Backed by a hipster house band, the new Mrs. Draper (Jessica Pare), formerly Don's secretary, stunned partygoers who openly ogled her while the ad exec (Jon Hamm) squirmed with polite embarrassment. It was June 1966.
Hours after the AMC drama's fifth-season opener, Lionsgate Television Music released Pare's breathy cover on iTunes, with limited-edition vinyl to be sold through the show's website. It will soon be available on Amazon.
STORY: 'Mad Men' Spoiled Bastard Recap
According to The Daily Beast, the original "Zou Bisou Bisou" -- translation: "Oh you, Kiss Kiss" -- was recorded in the early '60s by Gillian Hills, a French coquette who helped popularize "ye-ye" music: frothy, flirty, European teen pop. In the 1960 film The Millionairess, Sophia Loren -- who bears a passing resemblance to Pare -- sang an English cover of the tune, dubbed "Zoo Be Zoo Be Zoo."
The Mad Men-ized edition of the track is produced by series creator and executive producer Matthew Weiner, composer David Carbonara, Lionsgate TV Music Head Russell Ziecker and recording engineer James T. Hill.
