Jimmy Kimmel Turns John Krasinski's House Into Winter Wonderland in Epic Holiday Prank (Video)
The stunt was the latest chapter in the neighbors' ongoing decor war.
Jimmy Kimmel and John Krasinski have an ongoing holiday prank war and this year, the late-night host went big with his stunt.
Kimmel explained on Wednesday night's episode of his late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, that he's neighbors with Krasinski and wife Emily Blunt. A few years ago, the couple snuck in during the middle of the night and set up a light-up Santa Claus and snowman and put a Star of David outside his bedroom.
To retaliate, Kimmel purchased a light-up insurance sign off Craigslist and mounted it on Krasinski's front wall. The back-and-forth continued, but this year, Kimmel went all out.
HP volunteered to help him decorate Krasinski's home for the holidays, he explained. They brought in eight trucks worth of holiday decorations and a 15-man crew, turning Krasinski's home into a house fit for Santa Claus while the actor was at work.
"We brought in trains and fake candy canes," Kimmel explained. "We wrapped more than 200 fake gifts; we covered the trees with giant lights and bows and snowflakes. We brought in giant toy soldiers, we brought in fake snow and ornaments. We wrapped the doors. We wrapped the windows. We gift-wrapped every inch of the house. We even set up a snow machine, and it took seven hours but it was beautiful."
Then Kimmel's camera crew filmed the former Office star returning home. After he got out of his car, he said "What?" and laughed as snow fell down on him. After that, a group of carolers emerged singing "Deck the Halls." Through all of this, Krasinski looked a bit confused but not too upset.
But when Kimmel's sidekick Guillermo burst out of one of the gifts and ran towards him, Krasinski looked truly shocked, later saying, "Oh God, I almost threw up."
"Jimmy, I had no idea this was you because no one has ever done anything like this but you," Krasinski said in a video message to the host, filmed on an HP tablet. "I hate you. I love you and thank you for this."
But, Krasinski didn't think he'd be able to match that stunt.
"You know what the worst part is, I'll never get him back for something like this," he said. "I don't have enough money to do something like this."
He also wasn't able to get inside his home, since the door was covered with gift wrap.
"All right, we'll just leave, I guess," he said.
