Mindy Kaling is staying put at Universal Television.

The creator, executive producer and star of The Mindy Project has signed a new multi-year deal at the studio, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The deal includes acting, writing and producing.

The news comes after The Mindy Project earned a season five renewal at Hulu, where the series is currently in the midst of its 26-episode fourth season. The deal also comes shortly after Universal TV named Pearlena Igbokwe the new president of the studio, replacing the recently departed Bela Bajaria.

“I’m so pleased that the first new deal to be closed after settling into Universal Television is with Mindy Kaling,” Igbokwe said in a statement. “She’s incredibly funny and smart, and she has her pulse on what it takes to produce, write and star in television that is relevant and insightful.  I’m eagerly looking forward to terrific things ahead from Mindy in both half-hour and one-hour television.”

Added NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke: “Mindy has truly made her mark in the creative community as a prolific storyteller, role model to many and a wildly funny artist who is clearly in the zeitgeist of American pop culture. We are thrilled to continue our relationship with her at Universal Television for many years to come.”

The news was first reported by Variety.

Before developing The Mindy Project at Universal TV, which aired on Fox for three seasons before moving to Hulu, Kaling worked on Universal TV's long-running comedy The Office, where she served as an actress, a co-executive producer and wrote 23 episodes.

In addition to her TV works, Kaling is the author of two best-selling books, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (and Other Concerns) and Why Not Me, which debuted atop The New York Times bestseller list last year. Her other credits include Inside Out, The Night Before and This Is the End, among others.
