Even so, in the three seasons that we’ve known Lily – who was played for two seasons by twins Ella and Jaden Hiller until four-year-old Aubrey Anderson-Emmons took the role this season – she has created some of the funniest scenarios of the show.

And as for Wednesday’s controversial F-bomb story line, showrunner Steve Levitan says as much tweeting, “Lily swears tonight's brand new #ModernFamily is funny.”
