Steve Levitan is joining the pilot fray.

The Modern Family co-creator has signed on to direct the pilot and exec produce Fox comedy L.A. to Vegas, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

The single-camera project is an ensemble workplace comedy about a group of underdogs who are trying to find their place in the world that is set on the Friday night flight from L.A. to Vegas and the returning flight on Sunday, who all share the same goal: to come back a winner in the casino of life.

Lon Zimmet (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) will pen the script and exec produce alongside Gary Sanchez Productions' Will Ferrell, Adam McKay and Chris Hency. The comedy hails from 20th Century Fox Television, where Levitan is under a lucrative overall deal.

Levitan's role in L.A. to Vegas will not impact his involvement with ABC's Modern Family, which is also produced by 20th TV. Levitan remains a co-creator and co-showrunner, along with Chris Lloyd, on the five-time Emmy-winning comedy series.

Levitan, who also won an Emmy for directing a 2012 episode of Modern Family, is repped by UTA and Sam Fischer.
