The single-camera comedy revolves around two city families who buy the only store in a tiny rural community in Oregon. In a world where everyone is overworked and reliant on technology, the clans work together -- without every modern convenience -- to build a better life for their family.
Ty and Duncan Burrell will co-write and co-executive produce the untitled comedy, which hails from Modern Family studio 20th Television. ABC has given a script plus penalty order to the comedy.
STORY: 'Modern Family's' Sofia Vergara Adapting 'Killer Women' for ABC
Burrell and co-star Vergara now both have projects set up at the Modern Family network this development season. Earlier this month the Emmy-nominated actress landed a script commitment for Killer Women, a soapy procedural revolving around a female Texas Ranger. She'll executive produce the hourlong dramatic adaptation of POL-KA Productiones' Argentine series, Mueres Asesinas, which is based on the book trilogy of the same name by Marisa Grinstein.
